Curve Issue
Summer 2009

Curvaceous beauty plus-size model Christina Mendez is not just a testament to that adage “bigger is better”. This pretty face and bangin’ body is not only a model but also a philanthropist.

But let’s begin at the beginning, or at least what you really want to know about this Dominican diva. (She’s the grand-daughter of merengue king Joseito Mateo.) Her measurements, right? At 5’9”, she wears a size 12 or as she puts it: “Size Sexy”! And the curves… Well… 38-33-43. That’s a lot of woman! That’s mangú, queso frito, arroz con pollo AND a bag of chips! But it’s not just her curves that keep her interesting. Stay focused here – she is also a philanthropist.

Yes, besides blessing the world with her grace and beauty, Christina has dedicated her time to various charities including: Autism Speaks, Hispanic Support Organizations and Women Barack! The Vote. Being the only Hispanic woman in the ads, she delivered the important message of voting in both English and Spanish. This complicated curvy diva is dedicated most of all to Autism awareness. When her son just barely turned 2 years old she learned that he had severe autism. Not just bodacious but just as equally BOLD, Christina Mendez, stopped her career to a screeching halt to care for her son on a full time basis. Life may have thrown her a curve, but as you can see, Christina knows all about curves. She came back to the modeling scene with BET’s Rip the Runway. From there her career took off and she has appeared on Rachel Ray Show, Fox News, The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, BET News, Lifetime’s “Matched in Manhattan” with Matt Titus, New York local favorites Good Day New York, CW 11 and others.

Christina Mendez has graced the pages of Glamour, All You, Latina Magazine and Urban Runway for BET’s Rip the Runway, Art of Curves, and Lane Bryant’s In-Store Fashion Show in NYC. She has also become one of the first real-size, Hispanic Urban models to work as a featured model for brands such as Baby Phat, Apple Bottoms, Rocawear, Dereon and more.

And of course now Christina Mendez is on the cover of La Diva Latina Magazine! What’s next? Oprah??? ?
