Puerto Rican Christmas Movie
with John Leguizamo and ... Debra Messing?

It's Christmastime and the far-flung members
of the Rodriguez family
are converging at their parents' home in Chicago
to celebrate the season and rejoice
in their youngest brother's safe return
from combat overseas.

At this family Christmas reunion
the family bonds together in the face of crisis.

So, the Puerto Ricans, where they at?

According to Elizabeth Pena
(La Bamba, Lone Star, Down and Out in
Beverly Hills and Rush Hour)
"The fact that the movie got made,
that we're portraying a Puerto Rican family
as just like any other family, is a miracle."

The tagline for the movie is:
They're just the typical Ameican family.
Minus the Puerto Ricans.
Oops!  I meant Minus the Typical!

Pasteles are Taino

Puerto Ricans are known for their Pasteles.
But did you know that pasteles are indeed
of indigenous origin.

In fact, a type of pasteles –
the “Mexican” tamale or tamalli in Nahuatl –
can be traced back as early as 5000 BC.

According to Roberto Borrero
who is considered a
leading authority on ancient Taíno Indian culture,

Pasteles are "original Taino comfort food"
