Tcherkaski:
the man behind
Mi Viejo
the most famous
father's song

José Tcherkaski is a songwriter, poet and a news reporter in Argentina. He is a prolific writer that wrote about 150 songs in 35 years which have been heard all over the world. He worked together with Piero for about 30 years. Together their songs reflected the political struggles in Argentina.

He continues to reflect the politics of Argentina even after more than 20 years of democracy because he says that in Argentina things have not changed and some things are worse than before.

He therefore, re-released and re-edited the 1972 Bronca Buenas Aires. This CD contains Tcherkaski’s strong lyrics (Bronca roughly translated “intense anger”) cooled off with smooth jazz.

Fernando Gelbard featured in Bronca Buenos Aires says in whatmusic.com: José Tcherkaski’s poetry, read in Spanish by the author, romantically and sensually captures the constant civil and political upheaval in which Buenos Aires and Argentina as a whole endured in the early 70s. This work is a message of love and at the same time a revolutionary cry, a true protest against social injustice and military authoritarianism. An amazing piece of art.

Tcherkaski is also working on his next piece called “Yo judio”. He explains that: I ask myself- What am I, from my own education and my state of being Jewish, having lived through 2 holocausts (from my mother’s family in the Jewish ghetto of Varsovia and the one from the military dictatorship in Argentina), going through both Hanukkah and Christmas and both Passover and Easter and in truth I have nothing.

Tcherkaski says Bronca Argentina does not necessarily display the present conditions of Argentina, but does resonant the Bronca that still prevails today.
